But a surprising visit from Drexel University sport management students in Amy Giddings' women and minorities in sport class made their latest session a memorable one.
As part of the 24th annual National Girls and Women in Sport Day, members of Giddings' class walked over to 42nd and Spruce Street to spread awareness of the nationwide pro-female participation in athletics campaign to 50 fifth graders.
The students not only participated in a number of activities, but also answered trivia questions as well.
The winners of the respective events received Sixers prize packs, which included t-shirts and tickets to an upcoming game.
All the students were also given tickets to the Drexel-Delaware men's basketball game Feb. 13 at the Daskalakis Athletic Center.
"It seemed like the students liked it and had a lot of fun," pre-junior Kerry Handschuh said. "I think we did a great job. Everything went smoothly."
Founded in 1987, NGWSD seeks to recognize the past and current accomplishments of female athletes, while showing young girls that there is an opportunity for them in sports, in spite of the struggles and hardships that they might face along the way.
