Fouch dropped 28 points on the Tigers, including a ridiculous 6-of-7 from beyond the three-point arc. Drexel's three-point shooting overall was a sizzling 50 percent for the game.
"I got tired of hearing [Coach Bruiser Flint] yell at me so I started to focus much more at practice," Fouch said.
Flint chuckled to himself during the postgame interview as his young guard finally admitted his coach's "prepare to perform" motto has yielded some serious results.
The contest began fairly even as Towson hit six of its first nine shots out of the gate. Then the Dragons (13-11, 8-4 Colonial Athletic Conference) clamped down on defense with 10 minutes to go in the first half and established a 17-point lead at the break.
Freshman Derrick Thomas headed the Dragons' defensive effort, which caused nine turnovers in the first half. He also contributed 12 points, five rebounds and five assists in the contest.
"Derrick has been our most consistent freshman," Flint said. "He's always guarding the best player on the other team for us."
Other than Fouch's near career-high (he scored 29 against Hofstra), the rest of the scoring was very balanced for the Dragons. Drexel had seven players score at least eight points each. Guards typically provide the bulk of the scoring for the Dragons, but they were able to win the battles down low by outscoring Towson 34-16 in the paint.
As usual, Samme Givens led the team in rebounds with 10. He was able to eclipse 400 boards for his career during the game. As a team, the Dragons outrebounded Towson 45-32 and outscored the Tigers in second-chance points 26-3.
The depth of this Drexel team was on display as well. The Dragons' large lead allowed Flint to use his players off the bench for some significant minutes and their little to no drop-off in play as Drexel's bench outscored Towson's 63-15.
