The Undergraduate Student Government Association at Drexel University has recently opened up four positions that need to be filled by undergraduate members of the student body. The four open positions are commuter representative, student organization representative, residential representative and Co-op representative.
The four positions were recently vacated by previous officers due to personal reasons and time constraints.
"Being a part of our Student Government at Drexel requires a lot of commitment and responsibility. The officers who stepped down did an amazing job this year with their hard work and dedication," Sean Murphy, vice president of the USGA, said.
Some students, after being informed about the vacancies, admitted to feeling dissatisfied with the integrity of their representatives.
"I feel that these are critical roles that need to be filled by someone. Leaving these positions unfilled is like letting down the student population at Drexel," Anthony Tang, a pre-junior information sciences major, said.
The vice president made it clear that though the positions have not been filled for several weeks, there were no adverse effects to the Drexel undergraduate community at large.
Other members of the undergraduate student body felt that this opportunity would have a positive effect on campus.
"I think it's a great way for students to get involved on campus," Jasmine Tun, a junior majoring in health sciences, said.
Students seem to be interested in getting involved in these positions. Several possible candidates have applied. The final decision on the appointments will be issued Nov. 9.
"We are looking for hard-working, proactive and dedicated students who want to help improve their University for the embettermeant for all students," Murphy said.
The representatives that will be appointed will serve until the spring semester. During the spring the USGA will hold elections for new representatives, in which anyone may run for all positions except president and vice president. A candidate for these two positions must serve in the USGA one year before he is eligible to run.
