After a tough start to the season, the women's soccer team shut out Fairleigh Dickinson by a score of 3-0. The win brings the Dragons' overall record to 2-5, which includes losses to Lafayette and La Salle.

Drexel's first goal came from leading scorer Jenna Lindsay in the 23rd minute when she fired a shot to the right corner of FDU's goal. Then, the Dragons nailed the game down with a pair of goals early in the second half.

Freshman Courtney Wilie blasted a shot to make the score 2-0, and substitute Elizabeth Matta added another goal just 56 seconds later.

Lindsay talked about how important the win was for her team going forward.

"It was very important for us to bounce back after the loss at Lafayette because conference play was approaching and we wanted to do well before our opener," Lindsay said. "We knew we had to turn around and play well against FDU because we wanted another win under our belt. You always want to come back after a loss and play harder to gain some momentum. I felt like we got the job done and things finally fell our way with a three-goal performance and a shutout."

The win was extremely important for the team's confidence because it was their last none-conference game of the season. The team's first Colonial Athletic Association contest will come against Northeastern at Vidas Field. At 5-2, the Huskies should be a good test for the Dragons in order to see what it will take to compete in the Colonial Athletic Conference this year.

When asked about what the team did differently during its dominant performance against FDU, Lindsay looked to a specific part of the game almost immediately.

"Throughout the season so far I believe the team has played very well and we just weren't able to finish our opportunities," Lindsay said. "On Sunday we did a better job with capitalizing on our chances and not letting FDU back into the game. I felt we were more mentally prepared on Sunday because we knew we had to play well going into conference."

Despite the Dragons' subpar record, there were many positives that came out of the teams' first seven games. In a phenomenal game at Vidas Field, Drexel managed to edge out a 1-0 victory against No. 25 Pittsburgh. The win was Drexel's first of the season and almost erased any doubt the team may have had from its previous three losses.

It seems the team has now completely turned it focus to conference play. Every game from here on out is just as important as the next. The competition will get much more intense over the next month as each conference opponent looks to build on its previous performance.
