Dear Readers,

I'll admit it. I can't hide it. I'm too passionate about it not to.

I live and die with Drexel sports.

Ever since I was a freshman, for the past four years I have been a regular fixture at Drexel games, attending them as either a die-hard fan or an unbiased journalist - or both - if it's really possible to intertwine the two.

Over that span, I have witnessed program-changing upsets and gut-wrenching defeats. As a freshman, I had floor seats at Madison Square Garden to see the men's basketball team take on top-ranked Duke in the world's most famous arena. Last season, as a junior, I was fortunate enough to be invited on a team-charter and fly out to Albuquerque, N.M. to see our women's basketball team take on Kansas State in the program's first-ever NCAA Tournament game.

When I decided to attend Drexel, a mid-major in the Colonial Athletic Association, I never could have imagined any of that would come to fruition - but it did.

Now I sit at my desk in the friendly confines of The Triangle production office writing this introductory letter.

I've got some emerging writers on staff and we're hoping to be able to provide a myriad of sports coverage, from features to game stories and commentaries.

This is my first full year as sports editor and I'm hoping to make it a memorable one. Plus, if all-world women's basketball player Gabriela Marginean has anything to do with it, it will be - with or without me.

If you have questions or comments on how to make the section better, please feel free to shoot me an e-mail or comment on my brand-new Twitter @Mazzangle and I'll be sure to write back and take those thoughts into consideration.

We live in an ever-expanding media world, so look forward to seeing more breaking news being posted as our Web site moves to a more blogger-friendly format. And if that wasn't enough, I'm going to be giving this so-called on-camera "talent" business a try, doing a weekly sports recap on www.drexeldragons.com. Finally, shamelessly, but ingeniously, I must also plug myself as an occasional Daily News sports writer (75 cents or www.philly.com, your choice).

Well, that's it for now.

Thanks, sit back wherever you may be reading this and let the games begin!

Oh … and by the way … if you need a Drexel sports refresher course please feel free to head to www.thetriangle.org to check out my 2009 Drexel Sports A-Z Survival Guide.

Sincerely,

Mike Mazzeo
