The Drexel men's basketball team officially filled out its 2009 recruiting class after guard Derrick Thomas inked his national letter of intent to play for the Dragons.

Thomas, who attends St. John's College High School in Washington, D.C., averaged 15 points, six rebounds and 3.5 assists during his senior season.

The 6-foot-3, 180-pound Thomas made his mark playing at the Capital Classic All-Star game when he knocked down all four of his 3-point attempts en route to a 16-point performance.

According to a scouting report from recruitrecon.com, Thomas "is a very strong guard … who can score on shots with a high degree of difficulty. He can also handle the ball and get into the lane."

The report also stated that Thomas "has vastly improved his outside shot and now that may be one of the strengths of his game."

Thomas, who potentially could replace Scott Rodgers - a player of similar stature and skill set - rounds out a deep 2009 recruiting class that includes 5-foot-11 guard Shannon Givens (brother of soon-to-be sophomore forward Samme Givens), 6-foot-9 forward Daryl McCoy and 6-foot-8 forward Dartaye Ruffin.

Chris Fouch, a sharpshooting freshman guard who was forced to sit out the entire 2008-09 season with an ACL injury, will also join this dynamic group of newcomers as Drexel seeks to improve on its 15-14 campaign last season.
