Pennoni discussed his relationship with the late President Constantine "Taki" Papadakis, calling him "effervescent" and a "wonderful" friend.
Pennoni said he had received five possible naming opportunities to honor Papadakis, but only discussed two publicly.
"[Carl] Tobey [Oxholm] is working on Papadakis Service Awards for the Sacramento campus," Pennoni said. "Another option being considered by the chairman and the Board of Trustees is the naming of the Integrated Sciences Building."
Pennoni said the search for a new president could be a "lengthy procedure," as it include forming a committee of students, faculty, trustees and alumni, followed by reviewing applications and numerous interviews.
"Dr. Papadakis was absolutely the best choice, as history has proven to be the case," Pennoni said. "But you all may have to put up with me a bit longer."
Pennoni has made two direct changes as interim president. He moved the human resources department under James Tucker, senior vice president of student life and administrative services, and appointed Greenberg as provost.
"I didn't think it was in the best interest of Drexel University to have an interim provost and an interim president, and I had received very good feedback about Mark," Pennoni said. "We need to hire the best and the brightest, and that's hard to do if they don't know who their boss will be."
Greenberg said he and the University benefited from Papadakis' leadership during Drexel's transition period, calling it a "blessing and a comfort."
"I am honored and humbled to address you as provost," Greenberg said. "The exceptional vice provost I work with has formed a team to help the University move forward."
Tucker said several of Drexel's construction sites aim to be completed this year, including Millennium Hall in July, Northside Dining Terrace in September and a recreation center in December.
