In the past, many people outside and within the Drexel community, including those of us at The Triangle, have poked fun at President Constantine Papadakis and sometimes criticized him for treating the University like a business. We've all joked about the "Drexel Shaft" and reeled with complaints over the ongoing construction. But all the laughs and all the complaints dissipated with the recent news of Papadakis' medical leave.

Now that we are without our leading figure, we have to take a moment to appreciate just how beneficial he really has been for the University. In our time at Drexel, we have seen ups and downs, rainy days and groundbreaking moments. And the truth is, a degree from Drexel has become more valuable with every year that he has been on board. The acceptance rate has steadily become more competitive, and most importantly, the perception of our school has become highly revered. Under Papadakis, Drexel has welcomed many notable figures, from Barack Obama and the rest of the 2008 Democratic primary candidates to Chinese writer Ha Jin. Drexel has been featured on Saturday Night Live as well as CNN. Our graduates can proudly tout their degrees in job interviews and high school students eagerly submit applications. Our student body has not only grown, but with every new class, the average GPA and SAT scores have increased. Our magnificent student body is a reflection of Papadakis' hard work. He has laid the groundwork for an exponential growth rate. Our reputation and rankings have soared. We're starting to escape our "ugliest campus" title. Campus security has become stronger with the addition of a police force. And so, we would like to take the time out to thank our hard-working president and wish him all the best.

We hope that Interim President Pennoni will maintain Papadakis' vision in the time that he is leading us. With all the changes occurring on campus, it is a shrewd move to have someone from the inside who has served as interim president in the past take the reigns.

The Triangle staff sends our best wishes to President Papadakis in his recovery. And to Pennoni, we send the best of luck - he has some big shoes to fill.
