Bearing arms is constitutional

As much as we would like to believe that our police officers and armed forces can protect us at all times, this just isn't true. These men and women do the best they can day in and day out to ensure that our lives aren't threatened, but the simple fact is that they can't be everywhere to protect us from those who would threaten our lives or compromise our sovereignty as private individuals. That is the reason our founding fathers ensured for us in the Second Amendment that we would always have the right to bear arms. I sincerely believe that the right to own a gun is imperative not only for the safety of an individual but also so that we may never fear the complete oppression that comes from being subject to a totalitarian government with no way to rebel.
First and foremost before we can argue about any issue we must feel safe enough to think about these ideas and not have our lives in jeopardy. We take for granted this fact so often in the United States that we forget basic survival against "freedom fighters," criminals and corrupt governments are a major concern in the day to day lives all around the world. Survival comes first. From this alone, a case can be made that it is in every citizens rights and responsibilities to know how to defend themselves should the need arise. How many times do we hear of a violent crime taking place and passersby will simply keep walking and ignore what they had seen for fear of becoming involved?
If we lived in a world where the most dangerous weapon were still the sword I would support sword rights for the same reason. A weapon is a weapon and has no intrinsic morality. A sword can cut down both the guilty and innocent and so can a gun. No one can deny the danger of having a gun, but the real issue comes down to the belief that being without a gun is more beneficial to your life then not owning a gun. The answer is very simple statistically speaking. If there is a small possibility of having to use a gun, but in the event that it is used it will increase your chance of survival by any significant amount then a gun is an investment that can only be compared to how much you value your life to be.

Mr. Youseff is absolutely correct in this article. In the end, we are all responsible for our own safety and security.
Firearms are only a tool that we, as law-abiding citizens, use to ensure our own protection from those who would wish to do us harm. (Continued…)

David, very well written defense of our second amendment rights. It gives me hope that not all our young people are being turned into mind numbed robots at our nation's schools of higher learning. (Continued…)

This article is heinous trash for a few reasons:
1. You don't even make mention of the fact that violent crime is committed by illegal guns instead of legal guns, which is the strongest (yet still flawed argument)
2. (Continued…)
