Oplinger elected to choose to start in the neutral position to give him the opportunity to retake the lead with a takedown but was unable to do so.
Byers earned one point each for his advantage in riding time and for Oplinger's third-period technical violation.
Just seconds after the loss, Oplinger jogged off the mat, threw down his headgear and screamed in disgust.
In the other eight matches, Drexel won at 133, 141, 149 and 184 pounds but lost at the 125, 157, 165 and 174 pounds.
One of Drexel's most impressive victories of the dual was Frank Cimato's win over Denny Herndon, the CAA's third-best wrestler, at 133 pounds.
Drexel's Dave Woodall almost came up with the biggest upset of the evening when he almost pinned 20th-ranked Mendbagana Tovuujav in the first period. Tovuujav escaped and eventually earned the win by technical fall.
The men's wrestling team will compete in the Colonial Athletic Association Championships March 6 and 7 on the campus of Old Dominion.
