The men's basketball team continues to defy all odds.

The Dragons beat the Towson Tigers 78-65 Feb. 15 at the Daskalakis Athletic Center.

Drexel's Tramayne Hawthorne had a game-high 23 points on 9-of-13 shooting from the field and 5-of-8 shooting from the three-point line.

"He's been a great senior," Head Coach Bruiser Flint said. "He's good for the guys. Everyone likes him on the team. So in that respect I wasn't worried about him. He just hasn't scored offensively or shot the ball well the way we wanted him to. But he always plays defense; he always plays hard."

Scott Rodgers added 20 points, eight rebounds and eight assists.

Towson's David Brewster led the Tigers with 16 points and Junior Hairston had 14 points and eight rebounds.

For a team that was picked to be last in the conference, the Dragons certainly aren't playing like it.

"I think we just went out there with maximum energy," Rodgers said. "There were times that they tried to make a run but we just tried to match their intensity."

With the win, Drexel (14-10, 10-5 CAA) moved into a tie for third place with George Mason.

"I hope this can be the start of something for us these last few games towards the end of the regular season," Head Coach Bruiser Flint said.

Towson kept it close early in the first half before Hawthorne reeled off 14 straight points.

"We just wanted to make sure that if they made a run, [that] we sustained it and made one of our own," Hawthorne said. "I got open a few times and knocked some shots down."

The Dragons had their best shooting performance of the season, hitting 52 percent of their field-goal attempts.

They also had 21 assists and only eight turnovers for the game.

The Dragons hit 70 percent of their free throws for the game and had 40 points inside the paint.
