Drexel alumnus and commander of the recent NASA space shuttle Endeavour mission, Capt. Chris Ferguson was brought back to campus for a pep rally, Feb. 19.

The rally celebrated his successful mission and recognized Ferguson as the 2009 Engineer of the Year. At the celebration, Ferguson shared his experience leading the shuttle crew and also his experience as a college student.

"You don't have to be the smartest guy in the house to achieve great things," Ferguson said.

About 300 high school students participated in the rally including the students from Ferguson's high school, Archbishop Ryan. The rally featured a fusion jazz band, complimentary food and giveaways.

Speaking to the high school students, Selcuk Guceri, dean of the College of Engineering, said Ferguson is an example of the power of engineering to transform lives.

Ferguson has participated in two successful space missions and said at the rally that he hopes to continue going for a few years. He graduated from Drexel with a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering in 1984.
