Dragons beat Patriots; win fifth straight game

Gabriela Marginean scored 21 points and was one of four Dragons to score in double digits as the women's basketball team (13-8, 8-2 CAA) defeated George Mason (2-19, 0-10) 71-52 Feb. 5 at the Patriot Center in Fairfax, Va.

Nicole Hester had a season-best 13 points and 10 rebounds for Drexel, which remained in a tie for first place in the conference with James Madison and Virginia Commonwealth.

The Dragons have now won five straight games and have increased their road winning streak to three.

Drexel led by nine, but struggled in the first half. However, the Dragons started the second half on a 21-6 run.

Drexel led by as many as 28 points in the second half. It shot 63.6 percent in the final 20 minutes.

The Dragons were 9-of-19 from three-point range - 5-of-11 in the second half.

Jasmina Rosseel connected on a pair of threes and finished with 15 points, while Andrea Peterson added 11 points and a team-high five assists.

Rosseel moved into fourth place all-time with 102 career threes.

Drexel was able to capitalize on nine George Mason turnovers, scoring 27 points off them.

The last time the team won as many as five consecutive games was last season, when it won nine straight spanning from Dec. 16, 2007 to Jan. 24, 2008.

The Dragons return home and will face William & Mary Feb. 8.
