Dear Anthony, Triangle readers and Triangle staff (past, present and future),

As you may have noticed by now, we have been operating without an editor in chief since the beginning of the term. In this time, various members of our staff have stepped up to keep the paper going, and we've managed to scrape by.

We thought we could manage, but Anthony is right. Without a point-man (or point-woman), there is no hope for the paper to get back on the right course, because there is no one to chart that course.

The leadership of The Triangle has declined at pace with our economy. It is the fault of no particular individual or group - every organization encounters its own challenges and rough patches.

We are just college students. We have classes, co-op, other extracurriculars and personal lives, on top of putting out a paper every week. We get paid only in greasy food, experience and personal satisfaction. We do it because our hearts are in the work.

But it's not about us. It's about you, the reader - as well as all the staff who have come before us and built this institution over the past 83 years.

We have failed you. And we're sorry. And we aim to do better, starting now.

The job of editor in chief is a significant responsibility, and no one should take it on unless he or she is confident in his or her ability to commit to it whole-heartedly. Up until this point we have all been hesitant to accept this duty for fear of further failure. However, as of Jan. 30 our managing editor, Kari Sweisford, will take up the challenge. The Editorial Board puts its full confidence in her, and we look forward to seeing what we all can accomplish with her at the helm.

While we have a strong core staff here at The Triangle, we are always looking for more help. If you find yourself catching typos, consider becoming a copy editor; if you think we're missing important campus headlines, start reporting for news; if you have a passion for sports and can write a few paragraphs a week, join our team.

And even if you don't have time to get involved on staff, we want to hear from you. If you think The Triangle sucks, let us know why. Without constructive criticism, we have no way of knowing what we can do to serve you better.
