This past field hockey season, sophomore Susan Ciufo eclipsed a great deal of records. And those records culminated in Ciufo receiving the highest accolade possible: All-American status.

More impressively, she became the first sophomore in Drexel history to be named an All-American.

"It feels awesome, like it's a cool thing to have," Ciufo said. "A lot of it has come from how our team has grown over the years; I think that it shows a lot about our whole team."

The 5-foot-2 forward notched a single-season program record 45 points, while tying a single-season program record with 19 goals en route to leading her team to a 16-4 mark, its best finish ever.

"It was something that wasn't always on my mind," Ciufo said of her record-breaking accomplishments. "But it ended up being in the back of everyone's mind."

Ciufo was also named first team All-CAA and first team All Mid-Atlantic Region, further adding to her mantle of accolades.

She scored at least one point in every game that she played.

"It's nice to know that I didn't just score goals for the team, but that I could help out in other areas as well," Ciufo, who now ranks fourth on the program's all-time list with 25 goals, said.

Before the season began, however, Ciufo never expected to enjoy this much success.

"All of us were looking at the season like we knew we were going to be good and we were also looking at it as a rebuilding season because we had lost some really important players from last year," Ciufo said. "So I don't think anyone thought we were going to do these things but once we started coming together we started expecting these things to happen."

Nevertheless, Ciufo has embraced how far she's come in just two years.

"All of the accolades that I received this year really meant a lot," Ciufo said, "Last year, at this time, I was just a little freshman, so all of this is so cool."
