The Lebow College of Business will launch a Ticker web site next week as an open, for students, by students site to display the campus events hosted by undergraduate business groups, according to Ari Winkleman, site founder and a sophomore majoring in business.

The purpose of Ticker is to provide a web page where LeBow students can easily access up-to-date information about upcoming events and the student organizations sponsoring them, according to the web site.

"The idea of having a LeBow student organization hub is something that we have thought about and discussed for a number of years," Ian Sladen, director of Undergraduate Programs for the LeBow College of Business, said.

Sladen referenced the growth of student groups in the past five years and the need to inform students of the groups' events. He said e-mail would become cumbersome, as the administration would "e-mail blast the student body."

According to Sarah Antolini, a pre-junior majoring in business, and the marketing director of the site, Ticker will give leverage efforts to student organizations hosting events on campus.

Sladen said it is a web hub that's almost like a blog. He also said that he and the school administration intended it to be a "student site with the college's blessing."

"[The site will be] driven by students wanting to get their news out," Antolini said.

Winkleman said the site had gone through more than ten revisions as the color scheme had been changed and the site was updated for RSS, iPhone and WAP cell phone compatibility.

"[The site] has a lot of value for students at Drexel," Winkleman said.

After working with the school administration and pitching ideas, the business major was able to receive LeBow logos and approval to outfit the page.

"One of the things we have seen in the last few months is the number of students that are attending LeBow events for the undergraduates is increasing," Sladen said.

Fifteen to twenty people attending a group's event was considered a success, however since the inception of the site, groups have seen attendances of over 150 people, he added.

Winkleman said his site would work to reach out to students and inform them when Fortune 500 speakers will be on campus.

The site is not Facebook and has no social aspect but is informational, according to Antolini.

Inside and outside Pearlstein next week, Ticker representatives will be distributing promotional items. Additionally, LCDs, computers, and screensavers in the college of business will be programmed to advertise the site.

"Hopefully after this launch it is just going to be getting bigger and better," Winkleman said.

Sladen said he hopes the site gains momentum with students and engages them in outside activities.

"Engagement is something we really have been working on a lot in the past five to six years," he said.

Sladen and Winkleman said they could foresee other colleges at Drexel adopting the format if it is a success for LeBow.

"It brings a different perspective that we really need," Winkleman stated.
