Not only does he give the comeback performance of a lifetime, Rourke did his own stunts. Rourke trained intensively for four months before production with former WWF wrestler, Afa Anoa'I, so that he was able to execute all of the wrestling moves needed to make the part somewhat authentic.

Though Rourke will likely be the main focus of the film's success, Aronofsky should not go unnoticed. Aronofsky is an extremely innovative director. Whether it is his much applauded "Requiem For a Dream" or the less embraced "The Fountain," Aronofsky always manages to vary his style and bring a unique approach to the table. "The Wrestler" captures the reality of the former professional wrestler. It focuses on where these individuals end up after their time in the ring is up, as well as the inner demons they must confront with the decisions they make.

"The Wrestler" has already won the Golden Lion at the Venice International Film Festival-the festival's highest honor-and is nominated for three Golden Globes, including Best Motion Picture (Drama) and Best Actor in a Motion Picture (Mickey Rourke). The success of this film does not look like it is slowing down. This could ultimately become Aronofsky's defining work and Rourke's comeback.

The Wrestler is now playing in theaters nationwide.
