Over 3,200 Drexel University students placed their order during the week of Nov. 17, according to Jackelyn Eliassen, assistant director of Drexel Business Services.
"We appreciate the large student participation in the 'Place Your Order' survey," Eliassen said. "Drexel Business Services wanted to make sure that the students were involved in choosing the anchor concept for the Dining Terrace."
Drexel Business Services extended an invitation to all Drexel University students on the main campus to participate in the poll.
They advertised this survey via e-mail, a full-page ad in The Triangle, ads on both UCNet and InfoNet, and a Facebook event invitation on behalf of the Undergraduate Student Government Association.
Beating out eight other possible restaurant chains, Chick-fil-A captured 27 percent of the vote, according to Eliassen.
Students were asked to place their order from a list of nine possibilities: A&W, Burger King, Chick-fil-A, Currito, Mein Bowl, Panda Express, Quiznos, Subway and WOW Cafe and Wingery.
Brands were chosen through market research, logistical research, and a campus dining survey completed in May 2008, according to an official University e-mail.
"I'm pretty excited for Chick-fil-A to be on campus and I'm glad we finally have an actual food chain at Drexel, instead of having to walk to Penn. Plus, I can't wait until I get some waffle fries," Meredith Myers, a pre-junior marketing major, said.
However, not all students are pleased with the choice.
"I'm kind of disappointed with Chick-fil-A because there are a few that are already located close to main campus," Kyle Musal, a pre-junior computer science major, said. "I'd rather have seen a restaurant that isn't readily accessible in the Philadelphia area."
For Elizabeth Kantner, a pre-junior marketing major, Chick-fil-A doesn't offer vegetarian options except for the waffle fries.
According to Eliassen, Chick-fil-A will serve as the anchor restaurant in the new Dining Terrace; two other food venues, chosen to compliment Chick-fil-A, will be placed in the Dining Terrace as well. These two venues have yet to be decided upon.
Senior chemical engineering major Joe Berta won an Apple iPhone by participating in the poll.
