Preston Elliot and Steve Morrison host "The Preston & Steve Show" every morning from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. on WMMR. They will camp out in an RV from Dec. 1 to Dec. 5 at the Metroplex Shopping Center in Plymouth Meeting, Pa. to collect food donations.
Lea Ann Brumbaugh, the program manager for the LeBow College of Business, said the LGSA has set up food donation bins in Matheson Hall and the Leonard Pearlstein Business Learning Center to help collect food.
"Each quarter, we try to do a few philanthropy events," Brumbaugh said. "This is one of them, but besides that, we thought it was a really good cause."
According to Brumbaugh, the LGSA hopes also hopes to help with the food drive by spreading the word.
"We're actively promoting the food drive around LeBow," Brumbaugh said. "We're also encouraging the entire student body, not just business students, to bring in food donations."
Maham Mahmood, a freshman biology major, thinks the idea of camping out will draw more attention to the food drive and is a good way to get people involved.
"I think instead of just announcing it on a show or putting up flyers, this really grabs people's attention," Mahmood said. "It'll at least get people to talk, which is a start, and hopefully that will get more people to come out and donate."
Brumbaugh hopes that despite the current state of the economy, the LSGA will hold a successful food drive.
"It's hard in these times, when everyone's pinching pennies, to ask them to donate," Brumbaugh said. "But hopefully we'll still have enough people come out and donate something here or there."
According to WMMR's web site, several prizes await the business, police/fire department and individual who donate the most to the food drive. The business will win a live broadcast from "The Preston & Steve Show," while the police or fire department will win a "Beef and Beer" from the show.
The individual prizes vary from a trip to the Deerfield Beach Resort including roundtrip airfare on Southwest Airlines, to a hot air balloon ride, to a catered suite at a Flyers game.
Mahmood said the prizes serve as good incentives to get students out to the food drive.
"You can win some really cool stuff, obviously, so it wouldn't hurt to donate at least a little bit and then sign up to possibly win something," Mahmood said. "It at least makes people think a bit more about going out there.
The LSGA sponsored a similar food drive last year, which was run by the Ford Motor Company.
