Department head nominated for IEEE

Dubbed the world's leading professional association for the advancement of technology, the IEEE is a transnational nonprofit organization. The IEEE has more than 375,000 members including nearly 80,000 student members in more than 160 countries.

To be eligible for presidency, a member must be in good standing, must be of senior member grade or higher, meaning the member shall have had at least 10 years of professional practice, and must also be an engineer, scientist, educator, technical executive, or originator in IEEE-designated fields.

According to the Carrie Loh, senior administrator of IEEE's Annual Election, other qualifications include having a working knowledge of the IEEE and its mission, structure, goals, needs, and direction; ability to develop certain skills if not already possessed; capability to set direction, focus on the big issues and make effectiveness a top objective; and ability to adhere to strong governance practices.

Kam received a Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Tel Aviv University in 1977.

He has served the IEEE as Member of the Board of Directors, Member of the Executive Committee, and Vice President for Educational Activities.

Kam's research includes detection and estimation, sensor networks, team decision-making, multisensory architectures, data and decision fusion, navigation and robotics, modeling and simulation, wireless communications, and engineering education.
