How I almost missed history

The Phillies and Rays traded a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth and top of the seventh innings. But after Pedro Feliz drove in Eric Bruntlett with and RBI single in the bottom half of the frame, you could feel the tension in Citizens Bank Park as fans bit their nails down to the bone in anticipation of a World Series title.
J.C. Romero got through the eighth, and once Brad Lidge trotted out to "This is for the Soldiers" from the bullpen before the start of the top of the ninth, the ballpark began shaking.
The Phils were three outs away from ending the curse and 45,000 fans were on their feet.
Lidge gave everyone a scare in the ninth inning when he allowed a one-out, broken-bat single.
However, the great escape artist got out of the jam with a runner on second and struck out pinch-hitter Eric Hinske to end it.
It was over. The Phillies won the game 4-3 and the series 4 games to 1.
They were champions, and I was there to witness it first-hand.
It's a night I'll never forget.
In fact, I'll never forget - or lose - anything ever again.
