Diwali - commonly known to most as the Festival of Lights in the Hindu faith is the biggest and most important of all Hindu festivals, as well as in Jainism and Sikhism. It holds such great significance because so many uplifting events are known to have occurred during this five day period. It is a time to be with family, and to pray for health, knowledge, and peace. Its origins can be traced back to Ancient India, to celebrate the marriage of Lakshmi and Vishnu or to worship Kali Ma (The Goddess of Strength) or Lord Ganesh (the symbol of auspiciousness and wisdom). To most, Diwali marks the end of Lord Ram's fourteen year exile in the jungle and a new time of peace, prosperity, and overall joy.

Drexel University's Hindu Student Association hosted Diwali for the first time, and over 140 students, faculty and staff attended the festive event on Oct. 28.
