Freshmen can now use DegreeWorks, a new web-based advising software, for scheduling, according to Harri Weinberg, senior systems analyst in the academic information and systems department.
DegreeWorks is an advising software Drexel University recently bought to help students plan their academic careers and assist in scheduling matters. The software will also help administrators and college advisers by providing accurate data about individual student performance and overall statistics for a given class, according to Weinberg.
"DegreeWorks is a more user-friendly version of the degree evaluation capability in DrexelOne, but with a lot more available information and data, especially for administrators and advisers," Weinberg said.
According to Weinberg, some of the highlights of DegreeWorks, from the student viewpoint, are the graduation requirements and the what-if analysis. Instead of having to meticulously look over a transcript to find whether all graduation requirements have been met, students will be able to use DegreeWorks, which will automatically display only the classes still required for graduation, according to Weinberg.
"[DegreeWorks] will make it much easier to advise students because we won't have to search through everything to make sure that a student is ready to graduate - anything missing should just come up," Caryn Glaser, director of student services in the School of Biomedical Engineering, said.
According to Weinberg, one of the best parts of DegreeWorks is the what-if analysis that provides a student with information about which credits will count if he or she switches majors.
"Usually, switching majors can be a headache because you have to look through which credits will carry over to the new major and what other classes are required. But with DegreeWorks, the student will see a broken down list with which classes have carried over, which ones are required and how previously earned credits can be applied," Weinberg said.
