"This new system allows us to do everything together and at different locations," Katsaounis said. "If a Public Safety officer was at a different location off campus, they could activate the system."
Whether or not e-mails, text messages, voice mails and faxes will be sent out simultaneously depends on the event, according to Ceccanecchio.
"Some situations may require an e-mail; other messages may need use of the full capability of the system, so it will all be generated by the severity of the event," Ceccanecchio said.
About 85 percent of the people who have been logged online to the Drexel One portal have provided cell phone numbers to us.
"This was something that was approved by the undergraduate assembly because they passed a resolution that endorsed the requirement for students," Ceccanecchio said.
Katsaounis added, "The faculty senate and the senior vice presidents in the president's cabinet also endorsed the resolution."
The service is currently going through a testing process.
"We're starting with a small control crew, and we're making sure the messages go out the way we expect them to," Ceccanecchio said.
As for the response time, DPS aims to get the message out within a 10-minute time frame.
"That's something that we need to see as we go through the testing process, it may be less or a minute or two more," Ceccanecchio said.
DPS is targeting the entire community for testing. Once the test is done, they will further develop the response time.
