According to a vote of the league's coaches, sports information directors and media, the Lady Dragons were pre-ranked fourth in the conference behind Old Dominion, who is going for its 18th straight CAA Title, VCU and James Madison.
"I don't know how much time and thought you want to put into the preseason rankings," Drexel head coach Denise Dillon said. "Thinking about it, we had a great year, but we lost four key players. To me, it's interesting that they would pick us fourth. [I'm] not taking away anything from the returning players, but we have a lot of young kids and a lot of teaching and growing to do."
Even though Drexel was picked fourth in the conference, there may be a bigger focus on junior forward Gabriela Marginean who was picked as the CAA Preseason Player of the Year.
"It's a great honor, but my main focus is on the team. I want the team to do well and I hope we click together," Marginean said.
Marginean, who had 19.0 points per game and 7.1 rebounds per game last season, said she isn't concerned with her team not being pre-ranked higher than fourth in the conference.
"I don't think it really matters because as soon as we step on the court, we are going to play as hard as we can and do our best."
The season kicks off at American Nov. 16.
