"We're looking for a good blend of older and younger uniform police officers," Ceccanecchio said.

In order to get the word out about hiring officers, positions are posted on Drexel's Human Resources web site as well as on Monster.com.

"We've also reached out to different law enforcement agencies, we posted it on Monster, so we're doing a pretty broad search looking for police officers and sergeants," Ceccanecchio said.

The goal is to have 28 to 30 officers hired by the time DPS is done the process. Another process DPS is working towards is getting approval by the state and FBI to have access to criminal justice information, the same as municipal police and we got that authority in September.

DPS is also looking to develop deployment plans for the officers who will be on a combination of bike and foot patrol.

"We're going to analyze all the crime data in the area over the past year and we're going to base deployment off of that," Spangler said.

Regarding the Phillies in the World Series, DPS is advising students to celebrate with responsibility, according to Ceccanecchio.

"We just want to let the University community know that we know that everybody is happy and thrilled that the Phillies are in the World Series, the City is going to be celebrating their victories, and that we just want everybody to think responsibly," Ceccanecchio said.

DPS will also have increased security presence to make sure that students can enjoy the game safely.

The jurisdiction for the Drexel Police Force will be the same as the current jurisdiction, which from 30th to 33rd streets between Chestnut and Spring Garden streets.

The addition of the police department will also include improving perceptions of safety and security, and adding another layer to the police force will only make things better, according to Ceccanecchio.

Officers will go through a two to three month training orientation program that includes diversity, activity training and familiarizing with university community and geography.
