The addition of shuttle stops was just one of several initiatives the USGA introduced this year. Sexual awareness, bike racks on the Center City campus, Drexel Bridges and the Council of Presidents are also on the agenda.
"We joined with VIEW, FUZE, Women's Studies, One in Four, Athletics and Student Life to kick off sexual awareness presentations on the Quad during the second week of the term," Smith said.
"We plan to have more presentations throughout the year, and hopefully can secure a comedy act to come perform as well."
According to Smith, the USGA hopes to have more bike racks along three main buildings on Drexel's Center City campus.
"The City owns the land where the Center City campus is located, so we have to get approval from the City first," Smith said. "Hopefully, we'll be able to install bike racks then so students won't have to wait for the shuttle all the time."
Drexel Bridges, a new committee, provides more opportunities for community outreach. They plan to work all around Philadelphia, helping middle school and high school students prepare for college.
"Many of these students will be first-generation college students, so they may not know what forms to fill out, how to look for majors, a lot of the basic stuff," Smith said. "Our job will be to help with that. As college students, we've just gone through the process. So we can give them tips and support and help them through it."
The Council of Presidents, a gathering of presidents of all the student organizations on campus, will focus on particular topics this year.
"We hope to have one meeting each term," Smith said. "This way, the organizations can help each other out with specific issues."
Smith is also working with Tucker to solve a problem with the on-campus catering company, Sodexho.
"There is this thing called the outbidding process, which is basically if a student wants to order something through Sodexho but finds a cheaper price somewhere else, they can order through that company instead," Smith said. "Students have been doing it for a few years, but now Sodexho says there was never a clause in the contract saying we could do that."
While they can't review the contract, Smith said there is still a precedent, which can help their case.
"Students have been doing this, so it has set a precedent. If we can overcome this, it will be great for the students," Smith said.
