After a year-long hiatus, "The Sarah Silverman Program" is back with more satirical wackiness for everyone. From doing drugs and solving crimes, to becoming a homeless person via losing keys, we can expect Silverman to get caught up with a wide array of extreme situations from this third season's installment of the show. And with things looking bleak for the country (at least in terms of finances), this only propels Silverman to entertain even more.
"We're really living in an exciting time of comedy. Whenever things are tough in the country, the comedy only gets better," Silverman said.
Her Comedy Central show has been known to be taboo in its concepts and nature, but does have some real meaning beneath the uncouth humor and graphic images that you forcibly create in your mind-as long as you want to look deeper.
Referring to this season's first episode, Silverman explained: "You can look at it and say, 'Oh, this is just about diarrhea and wet dreams,' but to me, it's about corporate America creating problems and then marketing solutions. It depends on how you want to see it."
In addition to her show coming back, Silverman has been getting involved politically. With the election right around the corner, Silverman is a spokesperson for "The Great Schlep," a giant urge for all young voters, particularly of Jewish affiliation, to fly down to Florida and convince their grandparents to vote for her candidate of choice, Barack Obama.
Like others, Silverman is concerned that this election will be a close one and that Florida could make or break this election, just like back in 2000.
"His name [Obama] is scary because of misinformation. It's a scare tactic that will make them all vote McCain," Silverman said, referring to elderly voters in Pennsylvania.
And unlike many, Silverman is not underestimating Sen. John McCain's vice presidential choice, Sarah Palin.
"She has charisma-which sucks. You can't stop watching her when she's talking," Silverman said.
Although on The Great Schlep's web site, Silverman jokes on a video she made in her own living room, she's dead serious about her views. She only wants younger people, voters and non-voters alike, to be thought about by the older population. It seems fair enough.
Silverman's bubbly personality, goofiness and vulgarity definitely exist, but her statements and responses are justified-opposite to what she portrays in her stand-up and television show. The third season of "The Sarah Silverman Program" premiered Oct. 8 and new episodes will be shown Thursday nights at 10:30 p.m. If you are interested in more information about The Great Schlep, please visit the campaign website at www.thegreatschlep.com.
