Here's an idea: Start club football team at Drexel

I've been a representative for the Triangle during all the evening Dragon Expo events for new student orientation days, and I noticed that there is one specific thing that remained the same from the previous year.

Yes, the students still look like they could be sophomores in high school and many of these incoming freshmen still try to make a great first impression so they can be considered "cool" when college officially starts.

But excluding those, I realized it seems that every year, the incoming class is an athletic group of individuals. During every Monday and Thursday evening for the past four weeks, you could see a large amount of soon-to-be Dragons taking over Buckley, whether it's playing soccer, ultimate frisbee, football or volleyball.

Honestly, during that time I thought that Drexel was recruiting more athletic students than ever before. When it's a really nice day during the school year, there are a decent amount of students who enjoy partaking in sports at Buckley; but for the most part, you don't usually see too many Drexel students at the field.

I remember last year at the orientation events, I played football at almost every session with the incoming freshmen. I was shocked to see how athletic they were, but perhaps even more surprised that they were so excited to play intramural sports at Drexel.

For whatever reason, as the school year started and the different intramural sports were in season, I couldn't help but wonder why all those athletic students mysteriously vanished.

I guess there are a few reasons to explain this strange phenomenon.

It is possible that all those freshmen were on teams, but I just happened to miss them all. I can't be at every intramural game during the season, so maybe it was a mistake on my behalf.

It is also feasible that even though they were so excited to play sports at Drexel, once they realized we don't have a baseball, football or hockey team, they lost all motivation to play sports.

You need to look at the chilling effects Title IX regulations are having on men's college sports teams.

screw this. In the last few years drexel has transformed into a nationally recognized school. It's about time we get an actual football team.
