Parking problems at Drexel can be resolved by driving less
Issue date: 6/27/08 Section: Ed-Op
Dear Editor,
In response to Anthony Cesarini's June 6 editorial, "Parking needs are not met for students," I would like to suggest one other action to help alleviate the stressful parking situation around Drexel. This is simply to drive less.
If more students elect to leave their cars behind and take public transportation, carpool, bike or walk to, from and around campus; there would be less strain on parking capacity in the area, and students would benefit financially from not having to pay for gas, permit fees and parking tickets.
Drexel's urban location and proximity to 30th Street Station allows for good access to public transportation such as regional rail and buses. Additionally, students can benefit from carpooling for all or part of the week to reduce their driving costs and the number of parking spaces needed.
While it is important to increase the amount of accessible and safe parking options for students, driving less should be considered as a simple and affordable part of the solution.
