SAFAC responds to The Triangle
Letters to the Editor
Issue date: 6/6/08 Section: Ed-Op
As for appeals, all student organizations that are appealing their funding are required to meet with their liaison prior to appealing, so the liaison can actually go over why things were funded and why other things were not. SAFAC is currently in the process of implementing a system that would allow student organizations to read all of SAFAC's comments about the request. This would be in the form of a PDF document of the allocation application, with comments explaining the funding.
Unfortunately, time prevented us from doing it this year, but it is something that will be implemented for next year. In the meantime, all of the applications for appeals will be scanned with SAFAC's comments and sent out to the students after appeals are over. It will arrive a few weeks after the actual award letter is received by the group, but we hope it will allow groups to better understand why we made the decisions we made.
As a final note, students do make the decisions regarding funding for the student organizations, not the administration, faculty, staff or even our advisor, Joe Gonzalez. SAFAC will be holding interviews in the fall, and we encourage anyone with interest to apply. If anyone has questions regarding the process or their allocation please feel free to contact us for more information. We'll happily meet anyone to better explain our process, your group's allocation or any other questions you may have.
Thank You,
