If you kick the ball too hard, then you essentially have no chance of scoring a goal, but if you kick the ball too soft, then it is much easier for the goalie to stop the shot.

Game Modes:

There are plenty of game modes to keep gamers interested in UEFA '08. Aside from playing in a normal exhibition, you can take advantage of the Story of Qualifying mode, where you complete different player and team tasks. The online modes include Battle of the Nations, where you earn points for playing as your favorite country and taking on other players across the world. There is also the Online Knockout Draw, where you can take part in a 16-team tournament. The best mode in the game by far and what thoroughly enhanced the game was the addition of the Captain Your Country mode. This allows the user to create a player or use a current professional on a club and control just that player, while trying to earn the right to be captain of his country while going against three other potential candidates. A created player will start with low attributes; however his other skills will improve depending on how well he plays in a match. Other users can enter this mode as well, meaning there could be multiple non-computer players trying to earn the right to be captain of the team.

Sound:

As with many EA Sports titles, UEFA has a solid soundtrack featuring a variety of little-known artists. One song in particular, however, "Attack Attack Attack" by Ejectorseat, is rather addicting and should hit the mainstream. In the game itself, the sound is sharp and the crowd makes you feel as if you were at the stadium. Also, having the national anthem for the respective countries gives more of a passionate feel.

Replay Value:

With a diversity of game modes, UEFA '08 is a game that can be played over and over without it getting repetitive. Its online tournament capabilities and potential for up to four friends to play on the same team in Captain Your Country make the game one that can be played for hour on end. In our opinion you will not get tired of playing this game and the more your friends watch you play, the more they will want to join. As mentioned, it will not matter if they are soccer fans or not.

Overall:

If you are a hard-core soccer fan or have never played the FIFA franchise before, this game is certainly a must. However, casual fans might want to rent the game before spending $49.99 on the title. The visuals are stunning, the sound and music are refreshing and the various game modes will keep you entertained for a long time. The only downside is its similarity to FIFA '08, but it is still an incredible game that must be played.
