The suspect wanted for robbing a Drexel University professor was arrested at approximately 3:30 p.m. in North Philadelphia while driving a stolen car and carrying a handgun, according to Drexel Public Safety officials.
Detectives from the Philadelphia Police Major Crimes Unit arrested the suspect, Marvin Sutter, after spotting his car and following it to the 1300 block of Allegheny Avenue.
"We knew the vehicle he was in," said a Sergeant in the Major Crimes Unit.
Detectives followed the car and called for uniformed officers before making the arrest, police said.
There were no injuries during the arrest and Major Crimes Unit detectives were interviewing the suspect at the time of this report, according to police.
It was not clear why Sutter had traveled to the Drexel area to commit his crime, police said.
Court records show Sutter has a lengthy criminal history for robbery, carjacking and weapons possession, among other crimes.
A police source said Sutter had walked away from a halfway house after being released from prison.
Domenic Ceccanecchio, senior associate vice president for Public Safety at Drexel said he personally notified the victim of the arrest.
The victim was "very relieved" he said.
"Due to the excellent work of the Philadelphia Police another predator is off the streets," Ceccanecchio added.
