A female Drexel University employee reported being assaulted in Stratton Hall at approximately 6:15 p.m. May 29 and a suspect is being sought, according to University public safety officials.

The suspect fled with the victim's cell phone and had a black handgun, but no serious injuries were reported, according to James Katsaounis, executive director of communications and marketing for the Division of Student Life and Administrative Services.

The suspect is a "light skinned black male, 6 feet 3 inches tall, medium build, mustache, close-cropped hair, wearing a white T-shirt with printed design on [the] front and blue jeans," according to a University-wide e-mail sent shortly after 9 p.m. the night of the crime.

Officials said anyone who sees a person matching the suspect description should call 911 and Drexel Public Safety immediately.

Security camera footage shows the suspect, according to Drexel Public Safety. The images show a male using a cell phone however authorities said that was not the victim's phone.

Investigators believe the suspect wore a shirt with a Panda Bear design, Katsaounis said. Enhanced images can be viewed on the right of this article.

"The Drexel community is asked to remain alert for a suspect fitting the description," the e-mail alert read.

A text message alert was sent to those who signed up for the mobile alert system, Katsaounis said.

Alerts were also posted on the Drexel Public Safety web site.

Detectives from the Philadelphia Police Southwest Detective Division were on the scene investigating the incident and interviewing the victim as of 9 p.m. May 29.

"Drexel Public Safety has heightened security on campus," the e-mail alert read.

No demand for money was made and the cell phone was taken when the victim attempted to call for help, according to Domenic Ceccanecchio, senior associate vice president for Public Safety.

A motive for the crime was not clear Ceccanecchio added.
