As part of the Power of Ten "Retail" initiative, Drexel is creating outdoor seating for the Northside Market and Starbucks, according to Rita LaRue, senior associate vice president for Business Services.

"Students are always asking for more places to gather informally," LaRue said.

This initiative began with the outdoor seating currently available at the Bookmark Café and will extend to the front of the Northside Market and between the Korman Center and Pearlstein for Starbucks' outside seating area.

"I hope students enjoy it," LaRue said. "If students want more seating in a particular location or in a new location, I'd love to hear about it," she added.

Jim Andorko, a freshman biomedical engineering major and USGA Greek Life representative, said he thinks the new seating is a good idea.

"That tends to be where a lot of students are at all times of the day and night," Andorko said.

Drexel is also considering adding another Starbucks location on campus; however, that is not a part of the Power of Ten initiative, according to LaRue.

"We're in talks with Starbucks, but they are very specific about where they will open," LaRue said.

Drexel has tried a few locations, according to LaRue, such as Ross Commons, but the space was not large enough for another Starbucks venue.

"I don't think that we need another Starbucks," Andorko said. "Maybe we should keep the first one open longer."

Ray Eveland, a freshman engineering major, said another Starbucks is unnecessary because Drexel already has one, along with two on the University of Pennsylvania's campus about two blocks away.

Adam Averbuch, a freshman biomedical engineer, agreed with Eveland and said, "A Wawa would be fantastic."

The next and final Power of Ten category is the "Power of You," according to LaRue. Student Life and Administrative Services is looking for student suggestions that cost $10,000 or less.

The entire initiative will cost $650,000 and was derived from funds reallocated within SLAS, according to LaRue.
