Drexel University women's lacrosse players rent one of the two houses which the car crashed into; the other house is rented by non-Drexel students.
Both Nicole Iacono, a senior health service administration major, and Rebecca Perkins, a sophomore communication major, were at a neighbor's house at the time of the crash.
"We were actually about to walk out the front door. I was at the top of the stairs, and we heard a crash. We ran out to the balcony; we saw the car pull across the double yellow line again and pull into the side parking spaces," Iacono said.
The students assumed that the car hit a tree when it struck the houses, according to Iacono.
"There was a white Suburban truck behind her, and it was a Drexel security police officer who was off duty. He pulled up right behind her car; he was already following her," Iacono said.
A Drexel public safety supervisor who was patrolling the area heard the crash and proceeded to the scene of the accident as well, according to Ceccanecchio.
Police were called and took control of the scene.
"When the girl got out of the car, the first thing she said was 'I'm an idiot.' And I could tell immediately that she was really messed up," Perkins said.
According to Ceccanecchio, when the driver was asked if she was injured, she said she was fine.
The car smashed off one of the gates attached to the house and bent another gate. It also hit a wall, causing bricks to fall out.
"One of the gates was stuck in my car. My whole windshield shattered. I have dents and holes in the car as well," Perkins said.
According to Iacono, normally there are at least three cars in the driveway; if all three cars were in the driveway, the driver probably would have T-boned the parked car closest to the street.
According to the property's landlord, who wished to remain anonymous, upon reading the police report, he was planning on having insurance company representatives come and look at the damages.
The insurance company still has not seen the damages of the house at the time of this writing.
