The Traditions Program will hold an event for graduating seniors called "Bon Voyage" June 7, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on the Moshulu at Penn's Landing.
The Bon Voyage event is a University-backed celebration for seniors in acknowledgement of the hard work they have done in their tenure at Drexel, according to Jacob Rozran, a junior commerce and engineering major and member of the Drexel traditions committee.
Initially, the Bon Voyage event was planned to include all graduating seniors including undergraduates, graduates, Earle Mack School of Law graduates and the College of Medicine graduates, according to Charis Jones, committee member and a senior psychology major.
However, the event now is solely for undergraduate students.
"I think it's a great idea for Drexel to start traditions such as this "Bon Voyage" event for graduating seniors. I know many colleges plan events individually for their graduates, but it's nice that Drexel as an entity is celebrating their graduates," Stacey Rose, Undergraduate Student Government Association Student Life Chair and senior business administration and marketing major, said.
The inspiration for this new tradition dates back to 1895, when students petitioned to then-President MacAlister to have the day off to watch the ships set sail from Cramps Shipyard, according to Tatum Isenberger, assistant director of the Annual Fund.
Isenberger serves as the advisor for the traditions committee.
"We wanted to incorporate the past tradition with our present tradition, seeing our seniors set sail on a new journey in life," Jones said.
"It is really exciting that they are bringing a tradition like this back. It would be great if an event like this gets to the point where they cancel classes for the day again because of the amount of people going," Anthony Ambriz, a senior software engineering major, said.
Rozran added, "The Traditions Program wants to ensure that the seniors understand that though they are moving on from Drexel, they are still and integral part of the University community."

This is so great! Drexel needs to implement more tradition into the system! I think a lot of people come here wanting the traditional college experience and are less than impressed when they discover there is no "traditional" in the Drexel experience. (Continued…)
