The women's softball team lost its chance to compete in the CAA Tournament as the Dragons were swept in their final three-game series by Georgia State. Drexel lost 8-5 and 5-4 in a doubleheader May 3 and lost its season finale 5-3 May 4.

The Dragons started off well in the final game of the series, taking a 3-0 lead in the third inning. Carla Waldron gave Drexel its first run with a double in the second inning. Senior Amanda Hastings came through with an RBI single in the third inning and Ashley Botelho gave the Dragons a 3-0 lead with a sacrifice fly to plate pinch runner Kelly Downes.

Like the previous game against the Panthers in the series, Drexel was unable to hold its lead and Georgia State scored five unanswered runs. Georgia State scored two runs in the bottom of the third on a two-RBI double by Lily Skelton. The Panthers then tied it up at 3-3 in the fourth inning. Rachel Cunningham led off with a double and came around to score on a Rebecca Roles RBI single. The Panthers pulled away in the fifth inning. With runners on second and third, Lauren Jones drove a two-out single into right centerfield allowing a second run to score to give Georgia State the final 5-3 lead. Drexel put in a good effort in the sixth and seventh innings, but was unable to tie the score.

The loss was not the best way to finish the 2008 season, but overall it went well for the Dragons. The women's softball team (27-20, 10-11 CAA) accumulated more wins overall and in the CAA than it has for seven years. The Dragons set a number of records, including single-season home runs and runs scored. Botelho and Sandi Wambold both set the team's single-season record for home runs with seven each. Botelho also set a new mark for RBIs and doubles in a season and Christina Rodriguez tied Drexel's single-season record of 36 runs scored.

Senior Molly Dacey set Drexel's career home run record with 14 long balls and finished second all-time in RBIs and doubles and was seventh in hits. Hastings also finished an amazing senior season. She was fifth all-time in doubles, 11th in hits and tallied six home runs in a single season, the second most at Drexel this year.

The CAA also recognized sophomore pitcher Katrina Gaudier and junior left fielder Christina Rodriguez for their play this season as they were named to the All-CAA Second Team. Freshman pitcher Ellen Boundy earned a place on the CAA All-Rookie Team.
