Another Drexel sports story ends
Mike Mazzeo
Issue date: 5/9/08 Section: Sports
And unfortunately, it is the theme of this season and this book that ended prematurely.
Throughout the previous years, we've had to watch the George Masons, the Delawares, the VCUs and the Hofstras have success.
We've strived to be like them. We've even beaten them.
But when it comes to crunch time, we haven't been able to come through with that big goal or shot in the clutch.
And that's why they have moved on to the pinnacle of collegiate sports while we stay home and watch it on television from our campus in West Philadelphia.
There's no question that we have coaches and student-athletes with all the character and class in the world, but in the measure of success, when it counts, we are just short of the stick.
Even though this book did close, hopefully the team this season will not just be a footnote in Drexel history.
Rather, it should be the foundation for a bright future.
Our administration is making an effort to improve our athletic facilities and that can only improve recruiting, which should ultimately make Drexel an attractive location for those who wish to compete at the highest level in a conference that has accomplished so much.
And that should make our next book stay open just a bit longer.
