"It was reported that while he was riding a friend's bike in the street, west on Chestnut [Street], he was struck by a white four-door 2002 Hyundai Sonata driven with its headlights off," Ceccanecchio wrote in an e-mail.
The student was treated and released from Hahnemann Hospital, according to Ceccanecchio.
Drexel Public Safety victim support services will be contacting the student, he added.
Ceccanecchio said Drexel Public Safety officers were first notified of a car accident and discovered the student bleeding but conscious.
Personnel from the Philadelphia Police and Fire Departments, along with University of Pennsylvania Police and Drexel Public Safety, responded to the scene.
It was not clear if the driver of the car was cited for any traffic violations at the time of this writing.
