"It only takes one."

I always used to hear this from my coaches during my baseball career.

Was it an encouraging phrase, or did it just state the obvious?

After our men's lacrosse team defeated Villanova 11-5 in the semifinals of the CAA playoffs, one thing is certain: it will only take one win to vault Drexel into the NCAA Tournament.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that out.

The Dragons have their destiny right in their hands. Win and you're in - don't have an NCAA Tournament committee decide your fate.

Bruiser Flint could certainly offer that advice.

Just two seasons ago his basketball team was on the verge of dancing when it lost to VCU in the semifinals of the CAA Tournament and was left on the bubble. It didn't matter that they had beaten Villanova; Syracuse and Creighton - all on the road. It didn't matter that they had gone 13-5 in the CAA during the regular season.

Just like it won't matter that the lacrosse team stunned the Pride earlier in the season when it came back from a 7-2 halftime deficit to come back and score an improbable 9-8 victory after Andrew Chapman notched the game-winner in double overtime. Nor will its 13-3 overall record or 5-1 mark in conference play matter.

It will matter, however, that head coach Chris Bates's team comes and plays with intensity for the full 60 minutes.

And if they do, they will be the first Drexel team ever to win a CAA Tournament - in any sport.

On May 3, the Dragons will play Hofstra on their home turf at Vidas Field with the lights on at 5 p.m.

Hopefully they can give a performance that gives Drexel something to remember.

But win or lose, they need not forget - It only takes one.
