Colin Ambler and the men's lacrosse team are just one step away from an automatic bid in the NCAA Tournament.

Ambler scored three goals and tallied two assists, leading Drexel (No. 11 Nike/Inside Media Poll) past city rival Villanova for the second time in as many games, winning 11-5 in the semifinals of the CAA Championship April 30 at Vidas Field. The Dragons previously defeated the Wildcats 10-7 in their regular season finale at Villanova Stadium April 26.

"[Making the tournament is] what we've been shooting for," Drexel coach Chris Bates said. "We want to take aim at being an NCAA tournament team. We've got an opportunity and that's what we wanted, a chance to get in this game and put Drexel in position to be an NCAA tournament team … so we're excited."

Top-seeded Drexel (13-3), who broke the single-season record for wins, will face No. 2-seeded Hofstra in the conference championship match May 3.

"Hofstra is a [heck] of a team," Bates said of his opponent. "Hofstra's got playoff experience. It's going to be a pretty exceptional game come Saturday. We're happy to have it here and we're happy to get ready to play it."

Greg Casey added a pair of goals, while six different Dragons each found the back of the net once.

Ambler, who is second on the team in goals (19) and leads the team in assists (21), got Drexel off to a fast start on the man-advantage as he cut to the net, received a pass from Jon Van Houten and scored, giving the Dragons a 1-0 lead at the 5:44 mark of the opening quarter.
