Drexel wins five straight on final homestand

The women's softball team finished off their last few home games of the season at Drexel Field as well as they could have hoped. Drexel ended its home schedule with a tight three-game sweep over the Towson Tigers and a two-game sweep of the Farleigh Dickinson Knights.
Drexel defeated the Tigers 4-3 at home on Senior Day, April 26. The last game of the series went well for the Dragons. They capitalized on three Towson errors, a trend that existed throughout the series. This was Drexel's first time in CAA conference play that it swept Towson in any series and the only time Drexel has ever taken a three-game series against the Tigers.
The game started with two Towson fielding errors in the first inning that put the Dragons up 2-0 early. The combination of a strong hit by Christina Rodriguez, a bunt by Katrina Gaudier, a grounder by Amanda Hastings and a single into left field by Ashley Bothelho plated Rodriguez and Gaudier in the first inning.
Towson rallied with two runs of its own in the third inning. The Tigers took advantage of a few misplays by Drexel to allow two of their players, Mindy Bean and Kim Lempa, to score, evening the game at two.
Kristen Beaver and Lisa Williams came through with a pair of clutch hits, which plated two runs and gave the Dragons the lead for good.
Molly Dacey, Victoria Hanks and Amanda Hastings were honored in the pregame Senior Day ceremonies.
Drexel followed its strong performance against Towson by sweeping a doubleheader from Fairleigh Dickenson April 30. The Dragons defeated the Knights 9-1 in the first game and 10-2 in the second. Hastings hit a home run in both games against the Knights. Kristen Beaver and Ashley Bothelho were also among the star players of the day.
