Few live records actually make a splash these days. This is partially attributed to the fact that live bootlegs are made so widely available on the Internet with sites like YouTube and PunkRockVids. However, the latest live release from Fall Out Boy, entitled "****: Live in Phoenix," is worthy of recognition.
The "****" CD/DVD documents a day of Fall Out Boy's sold-out 2007 Honda Civic Tour, one of the most exciting shows of the '07 summer.
The full live concert DVD is a reminder that Patrick Stump and Pete Wentz are two of the most clever and colorful pop-rock songwriters of today, and the band pulls it off live almost flawlessly.
The DVD includes all the band's hot singles, "Dance, Dance," "Sugar We're Goin' Down," "Thanks For The MMRS," a few oldies including "Grand Theft Autumn," and even a flawless cover of The King of Pop's (Michael Jackson) "Beat It" (for which the band is planning a video for their CD version which features a tremendous guitar solo from virtuoso John Mayor).
"****: Live in Phoenix" will certainly hold fans over until the band's next release.
While Pete Wentz and his teeny-bopper girlfriend Ashlee Simpson occupy the tabloids, it's imperative to remember that Fall Out Boy is the reason why we love the controversial pretty-boy and his rock star partner-in-crime, Stump, to begin with.
