During the banquet, Nicole Hester was officially honored with the V Foundation Comeback Award for winning her battle against Hodgkin's Lymphoma.
In addition, senior men's basketball center Frank Elegar, senior forward Randy Oveneke and sophomore forward Gabriela Marginean were honored for winning the team MVP awards.
But that award was not the only honor Elegar and Marginean received this basketball season.
Marginean was an All-CAA First Team player and the recipient of the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Player of the Year. Marginean had a stellar season, as she led the team in scoring, rebounds and steals, while being second in the conference in scoring with 19.0 ppg. Even more impressive, she led the nation in free throw percentage at 91.4 percent.
Senior guard Narissa Suber, the recipient of the Lil Haas Coaches Award, summed up the women's basketball season.
"I think [our season] was really successful, especially bouncing back from last season," Suber, said. "I'm proud of the way our team dealt with everything this year. It was a complete success."
Elegar was an All-CAA Second Team member and was named to the College Insider Defensive All-America Team. He led the team with 13.9 ppg and 8.2 rpg.
"Frank is one of my biggest success stories for me as a coach because he's a kid that nobody thought could really play, but he came here and had an unbelievable career," Bruiser Flint, men's basketball head coach, said. "I think he has a chance to play at the next level. That's one of the things you enjoy about coaching. You enjoy the relationships you build, seeing guys grow."
Elegar said it was going to be difficult for him to leave his teammates behind.
