The Drexel men's lacrosse team secured its CAA playoff position with a 15-4 win over Sacred Heart. It was the last regular season home game for the Dragons.

If it was their last home game, Andrew Chapman and Bruce Bickford certainly made it a memorable experience.

Chapman scored five goals and Bickford allowed just two goals, making 14 saves before giving way to backup Andy Blahut early in the fourth quarter, as the men's lacrosse team handily defeated Sacred Heart 15-4 on Senior Day, April 19, at Vidas Field.

"We really just wanted to have another game on this field for [the seniors] and today assures that," Drexel coach Chris Bates said. "I love those guys. They've done everything for this program and you know I'm just happy that they played well today and it was just a good game for us."

With the win, the No. 14 Dragons (11-3, 4-1 CAA) secured a birth in the CAA playoffs and moved a step closer to winning the conference's regular season title.

Adam Denis added three goals while John Van Houten netted two for Drexel, which used a balanced scoring attack to defeat the Pioneers (6-5, 1-4). Eight different Dragons found the back of the net.

Chapman scored three first-quarter goals as Drexel established a 6-0 advantage at the end of the first 15 minutes.

The senior, who has a team-high 36 goals, got the Dragons on the board just 3:14 in spinning his defender and firing a shot past Sacred Heart goalie Ricardo Vargas. Later Chapman made it 3-0 at 6:15 when converted off a pass from L.C. Moerschel.

His most impressive goal, however, came with just 38 seconds left in the opening period. Chapman placed an underhand shot and found the top left corner giving the Dragons a comfortable cushion.

"The underhand shot, I just kind of hit the top corner," Chapman said. "I almost missed the net so we could back it up and luckily it hit the top corner."

Drexel scored two more goals in the second quarter, one by Chapman, extending to an 8-0 lead at halftime.

Bickford, who sports a 6.94 goals against average and a .640 save percentage, lost his shutout bid at the 10:45 mark of the third quarter and was relieved by Blahut with 9:20 remaining in the game.
