Brett Burchette is bringing his diverse talents to Drexel's Goodwin College.

The former associate athletic director for External Operations at Indiana State was recently appointed as an assistant professor of sport management here at Drexel; Burchette will begin his tenure at the University July 1.

"I pursued the position at Drexel because I think it's an ideal opportunity for me both professionally and personally," Burchette wrote in an e-mail. "I've followed the launch of the sport management program and was impressed with the direction Drexel University is heading."

Burchette carries an extensive resume that includes 10 years of experience working in higher education. He previously served as an athletics administrator, corporate sales representative, development director, coach and adjunct instructor. Burchette's strengths include fundraising, marketing and promotions, corporate sales, television and radio agreements, ticketing and merchandise and licensing.

He said he believes he possesses the attributes to be successful in his new position.

"I pride myself in my work ethic and dedication to my job and family," Burchette said. "I think students can expect that I will be committed to helping them become successful in this field."

While serving as an assistant to the Athletic Director at Indiana State, Burchette played a vital role in developing the University's booster club, revamped and launching a brand-new athletics web site and helped ISU increase its ticket sales.

Before being hired at ISU, Burchette was associate athletic director and director of Athletic Development at Northeastern University. He also has held a development position at Temple University. Additionally, Burchette has worked outside the realm of college athletics, at Nelligan Sports Marketing in Little Falls, N.J.

Asked about the goals he wishes to achieve, Burchette wrote, "My goal is to help develop Drexel University into the nation's premier sport management program, connect students and the University with more co-op and job opportunities in sport management, and eventually pursue my doctoral studies at Drexel on a part-time basis."

Burchette also said he is looking forward to working with the director of the major, Dave O'Brien.

"He's [O'Brien's] one of the best in the business," Burchette said. "I look forward to the opportunity to work under his leadership and help play a role in developing both the undergraduate and graduate programs. Plus ... my family and I love the City of Philadelphia."
