Eight members of the women's lacrosse team were playing their final game at Vidas Field.
And they sure made one to remember.
Seniors Jessica Bill and Gwenna Johnson each scored three goals, while fellow senior Katie Bradley added two goals and two assists as Drexel scored 11 first-half goals and defeated Old Dominion 13-7 April 13 on Senior Day.
"The whole team was really excited," sophomore midfielder Katie Lawson said. "Obviously it was a big weekend. We finally played our game."
The Dragons (10-5, 2-3 CAA) won their second consecutive conference game after losing their first three and remain hopeful for a position in the CAA postseason.
"This weekend we were more psyched to play," Bradley said. "We underestimated our competition last weekend and we dug a hole for ourselves. We knew we needed to do better."
The Monarchs (4-5, 0-4) scored the game's first goal on a free position shot just 23 seconds in, but once again Drexel countered with a barrage of goals, much like they did in their last game against William & Mary.
The Dragons scored 11 unanswered goals, taking a 10-goal advantage after Bill stashed home a free position shot with 6:53 remaining in the first half.
Old Dominion made a brave attempt to come back from the rather large deficit and outscored Drexel 5-2 in the second half, but ultimately fell short.
"Everyone was just excited to play," senior midfielder Sarah Carter said. "And I think that really makes a difference for our team, when we come to have fun, we are unbeatable."
Drexel outshot Old Dominion 46-18 and increased the Monarchs' losing streak to five games.
Goalie Lauren LaBella improved her record to 10-5 stopping eight shots.
The Dragons will be on the road for their final two games as they attempt to get into the playoffs.
Game Notes: Before the game all eight seniors were honored. … Bill leads the team with 37 goals and 42 points, while Bradley leads the team with 14 assists and is second on the team in points with 40. ... Drexel has scored 30 goals in its last two games.
