For the first time since 1998, the men's lacrosse team defeated Towson 10-9 at Johnny Unitas Stadium April 12.
Andrew Chapman led the Dragons (10-3, 2-1 CAA) with three goals while L.C. Moerschel and Scott Perri each added a pair.
Drexel led 10-6 after Moerschels scored his fifth of the year and second of the game with 1:17 left in the third period and hung on late despite Towson scoring the final three goals of the game.
The Dragons' defense was stellar in the final five minutes limiting Towson to just one shot and creating a pair of turnovers to prevent a Tiger comeback.
Drexel led 6-3 at halftime, however, Towson came out storming in the third period scoring three of the first four goals to cut its deficit to 7-6.
Fortunately, Ryan West responded by winning the ensuing face-off, scooped up a ground ball and stashed one home just four seconds after the Tigers' goal giving the Dragons a two-goal cushion. Bruce Bickford made 13 saves in the winning effort.
Towson outshot Drexel 29-26 but the Dragons led in groundballs 32-31.
Drexel improved to 4-34 all-time against the Tigers. The Dragons had previously won games in 1962, 1964 and 1998.
