Students start WKDU sports show

Drexel University has been rapidly expanding over the past few years, from new colleges, to athletic facilities, to dorm rooms, to the 24-hour Café.
Besides the obvious signs of growth at the university, two students have made history at Drexel. This month, Brett Fischer and Michael Mazzeo began what numerous University sources call Drexel's first sports radio show.
91.7 WKDU, Drexel's official free format non-commercial radio station, will now air "Mazz and the Fisch Sports Radio," a sports radio talk show hosted and operated by Fischer and Mazzeo from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. every Wednesday morning.
"The new sports information show is an excellent achievement for Drexel and WKDU," University President Constantine Papadakis wrote in an e-mail. "Its innovative programming, which is unique to Drexel, will draw more student listeners to our radio station. I commend Brett Fischer and Michael Mazzeo for developing the show. This initiative will encourage awareness across our University community about Drexel athletics and encourage students interested in areas other than music and public affairs programming to tune to WKDU."
The main priority of the show will be to talk about Drexel athletics. However, due to the popularity of professional sports in Philadelphia, the Phillies, Sixers, Eagles and Flyers will also be discussed extensively.
The last half hour of the show includes an interview segment; previous guests have included Phillies and Eagles PA announcer and Drexel men's basketball play-by-play announcer Dan Baker, head coach of the softball team, Kim Camara, softball outfielder and team captain Amanda Hastings and Denise Dillon, head coach of the women's basketball team.
The show is also podcasted online, for those who cannot listen to the radio show live.
Fischer and Mazzeo are no strangers to Drexel University life or the sports field. In addition to the radio show, they hold the positions of sports editor and assistant sports editor, respectively, for The Triangle. Both men have also interned at Comcast SportsNet.

I can't believe there's actually a sports show at Drexel. I thought it was going to be another 50 years before that happened.
